Indigo Girls

Amy Ray and Emily Saliers met when they were in elementary school in Decatur, Georgia. They performed together for the first time in the school chorus which sang James Taylor's "A Junkie's Lament" for a talent show. They became a duo in their high school English class, where they wrote songs and tested them out on their teacher. (They still keep in touch with his mom.) As The Indigo Girls, Amy and Emily have traveled far since those days. Grammy Award winners, they may be best known for their hits "Shame on You" and "Closer to Fine."
