I remember going to the dairy on a field trip as a kid in the late 70's. I was the only kid in my class that let them squirt milk straight from the cow into my mouth. With that show of bravery I was one of the cool kids for the afternoon.

We also used to have annual picnics on the grounds of the dairy.

Oh and yes I had a Rosebud button!

I lived off Rainbow Drive and loved looking at it as we drove by to go to South Dekalb Mall. We had fresh milk delivered in our silver milk box on the front stoop. And then there were the field trips, milking Rosebud, getting the "I milked Rosebud" pin (I remember mine as being red), and drinking cold milk as we looked down on the manufacturing area from the observation room. I really miss it.

My dad work worked for Mathis Dairy for 34 years and I think he was one their first drivers. Mathis Dairy was such a beautiful landmark in a country setting. There was the fountain out front as you drive up, the office, the dock, the ice house, the delivery trucks, the processing plant, the beautiful pastures and cows. My dad even took me on his milk route with him sometimes. Very exiting stuff for a little tomboy.

I just found a bottle like the one in the picture in my parent's storage. They live in Toombs County, Georgia, which is quite a bit south of Decatur.
