Decatur, GA. is the possessor of this 500,000 gal Horton radial cone bottom tank. It's colonial design and graceful, well balanced proportion prove that beauty need not be sacrificed to achive utilty, thus Decatur has at once the many advantages of elevated storage within a stately structure that proudly graves the landscape of this historic southern city.

Festive Fiery Gatherings

For eight hours this Saturday, the Old Fourth Ward will debut a festival and "Curated Street Experience" that sounds like a family-friendly field day for pyros. In a neighborhood ravaged by the Fire of 1917, the first-annual "Fire In The Fourth" will "celebrate rebirth" with fire performances, fire installations, firefighter rescue competitions, circus arts, music ranging from gospel choirs to the Seed & Feed Marching Abominable and — get this — some guy who's going to try to consume a world-record 101 fire torches in one minutes. The festival will engulf Edgewood and Auburn avenues for one block, between Boulevard and Jackson Street.

Stone Mountain’s historic Train Depot Renovations

From: http://oncommongroundnews.com
The City of Stone Mountain’s historic Train Depot has undergone a $352,150 facelift. City officials hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 23 to celebrate the completion of exterior renovations on the project.

“It has been exciting to watch the transformation of the outside of the building. A year ago, there were holes in the mortar and the roof was leaking,” says Mayor Pat Wheeler.

The city received a Transportation Enhancement Grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation to cover the cost of the project. The project took about four months to complete, according to city officials.

“Without the help of GDOT, this project could not have happened. They have been a great partner to work with on the Depot. We know now that the building will be standing and dry for many years to come,” Wheeler said.

The south side of the depot was built in 1857 shortly after the Georgia Railroad Company completed the line from Madison to Atlanta.

The north side was built in 1914 as a passenger office and waiting room. Beginning in the 1960s the building served as City Hall and the City Jail. It remained in use until 2012 when the new Municipal Building was completed.

Trinity Triangle is set to Open in Jan. 2016

From:http://www.ajc.com/news/news/local/trinity-triangle-set-to-open-in-january/nkxCm/
By Bill Banks for the ajc

Decatur’s Trinity Triangle, bordered by Howard Avenue, Trinity Place and Church Street, will have its first apartment units ready for occupancy in late January.
Kent Collins, principal owner for developer Centro Development, said the project will total 210 apartments — six live/work, 37 efficiency, 125 one-bedroom and 48 two-bedroom — ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 a month.

There will also be 6,500 square feet of first-floor retail/restaurant space, where currently the only announced tenant is Dairy Queen, which previously operated on the site for about 30 years.
Dairy Queen can begin its build-out in December but Colin said he anticipates it won’t open until after the apartments are ready. He added there’s space for at least one and maybe two more restaurants.

Goodwill Store and Donation Center Coming Soon to North Dekalb Square

--

 From: goodwillng.org

Nonprofit Expanding Shopping and Employment Services to Decatur

Decatur – Goodwill of North Georgia will soon expand its footprint. The organization is building a store and career center in Decatur. Goodwill will break ground on the site Wednesday, November 19 at 10:00 am. Located at 2201 Lawrenceville Highway, the facility will be built in phases with the store opening first followed by the career center. Its support teams – finance, human resources, information technology and marketing – will also have offices on the property.

“We believe our presence will breathe new life into the community. Not only will our store draw shoppers and donors, but our two-story career center will allow us to serve a large number of job seekers,” says Director of Public Relations Elaine Armstrong.

The existing businesses in the North DeKalb Square shopping center will remain open during the construction of Goodwill’s 103,000 square foot facility. The adjacent space where Goodwill will build has been vacant for some time.

Opening a new location also means creating new jobs where they previously did not exist. “With each store we open, we create about 40 jobs,” says Armstrong. The career center will be Goodwill’s third in the county. “Our existing career centers on Columbia Drive and Buford Highway will continue to be a valuable resource to those looking for work, and the new center will allow us to be more convenient to people in another part of the county.”

Goodwill provides a variety of job training programs and employment services. It uses the sale of donated goods to fund those activities. This year, the nonprofit plans to help 16,500 North Georgians find work.
