Dear Friends
I am hosting a wonderful event on Friday, June 12 to help feed the 2.3 million AIDS and war orphans of Uganda. Please check the evite below or my website for details and plan to attend. It promises to be a fun evening in addtion to being a very worthwhile cause. There will be many works of art offered in a silent auction including an original inkwash study done circa 1525, by one of the artists who painted the ceilings of the vatican. This drawing alone is worth coming by to see. An RSVP is desired by a simple click on the evite.
Thank you so much,

Legacy of Art
Feeding the
AIDS Orphans of Uganda

When: June 12, 2009!

Rose Squared is hosting a silent auction of donated artworks by local and international artists to benefit Legacy World Missions. LWM is dedicated to feeding the AIDS orphans in Uganda, 2.3 million and counting. This is a devastating situation. Most of the children are roaming the streets in search of anything they can find to survive. Legacy World Missions has set up nutritional food centers across the country to feed and nurture those children.

The Benefit will be an upscale, catered affair with artwork in the form of paintings, etchings, drawings, photography and sculpture from many accomplished artists. We will even be auctioning an original ink-wash study attributed to Cambiaso for a ceiling in the vatican, rendered in 1525.

More info:
Our friend and supporter JD Isaacs of Rose Squared Gallery and Framing is hosting a silent auction of donated artworks by local and international artists to benefit Legacy World Missions.

Featuring progressive work from some of Atlanta's most influential working artists as well as museum-quality pieces from five centuries ago, the auction and reception will bring together elements of old and new, sacred and secular to support Legacy World Missions as we work to protect and nurture Uganda's most vulnerable children.

There are nearly 3 million children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and war in Uganda. Legacy World Missions supports 10,000 of them daily, and that number is growing. By working with small grassroots organizations throughout Uganda, Legacy World Missions brings life essentials and education to vulnerable children while encouraging independence and self-sufficiency.

For more information about Legacy World Missions, visit our website at www.LegacyWorldMissions.org.

Chrissie Hynde & The Prentenders - Don't Get Me Wrong

Dont get me wrong
If Im looking kind of dazzled
I see neon lights
Whenever you walk by

Dont get me wrong
If you say hello and I take a ride
Upon a sea where the mystic moon
Is playing havoc with the tide
Dont get me wrong

Dont get me wrong
If Im acting so distracted
Im thinking about the fireworks
That go off when you smile

Dont get me wrong
If I split like light refracted
Im only off to wander
Across a moonlit mile

Once in awhile
Two people meet
Seemingly for no reason
They just pass on the street
Suddenly thunder, showers everywhere
Who can explain the thunder and rain
But theres something in the air

Dont get me wrong
If I come and go like fashion
I might be great tomorrow
But hopeless yesterday

Dont get me wrong
If I fall in the mode of passion
It might be unbelievable
But lets not say so long
It might just be fantastic
Dont get me wrong

Papa John's founder embarks on cross-country drive to find his '72 Camaro, offering $25k reward

It's inconceivable that in 1984 there was any young man in America under 30 that did not love both pizza and the Camaro Z-28. John Schnatter had the Chevy. A '72 Z-28 in gold with black stripes, white-letter BFGs on chrome wheels, a sunroof and chrome-tipped duals. In other words, awesome. John felt a strong pull to try his hand at opening a pizza restaurant. To raise the needed working capital, the beloved Camaro had to go. As much as he loved his car, John loved his pizza plans more.

America says Goodbye to Jay Leno as Tonight Show Host

http://www.independent.co.uk/

The Tonight Show is the crown jewels of American television. It has been called the most important slot in showbusiness, and a monument of US culture.

On Friday, after 17 years, its host will sit at the famous studio desk for the final time. Jay Leno is vacating the post he has held since 25 May 1992.

His final guest is the man to whom he is passing the baton, the strawberry-blond and elongated comic Conan O'Brien.

Their encounter will be a TV moment: the switch from Leno, 59, to O'Brien, 46, is a jump in generations. It is also a move away from Leno's gentler, more home-style comedy of the ordinary guy next door to the spikier humour of his successor. NBC has wanted to make the change for many years, actually laying down the terms of the transition as long ago as 2004.

Rare Audrey Hepburn stamp goes to auction

Fritz Reiss/STF
The rare stamp featuring British actress Audrey Hepburn will be auctioned Tuesday and is said to be worth more than $40,000. In 2001, the German government printed the Audrey Hepburn stamps as part of a series featuring movie stars, but they were destroyed after Hepburn’s son objected to the cigarette holder dangling from the actress’ mouth and refused to grant copyright. Only five of these stamps are known to exist.
Rare Audrey Hepburn stamp goes to auction

Berlin — A collector stands to make a tidy profit after discovering a rare stamp portraying movie star Audrey Hepburn smoking — one of a series that should have been incinerated by the German government.

In 2001, the government printed 14 million Audrey Hepburn stamps as part of a series featuring movie stars including Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe and Greta Garbo. The print run was destroyed after Hepburn’s son, Sean Ferrer, objected to the cigarette holder dangling from the actress’ mouth and refused to grant copyright.

On Saturday and Sunday, May 23-24, head to the square in Downtown Decatur for the Decatur Arts Festival. There’ll be dance and theater performances, concerts, improv comedy, a juried artists’ market, a fine arts exhibition, a children’s area, & more.

Though you’ll find some parking on site, the easiest way to get there is to take MARTA to the Decatur station.

What DOES " Mingei" mean?
Mingei is a twentieth century Japanese word, a combination of the roots "min" meaning people and "gei", the same root as in geisha, meaning art. The coiner of the word was philospoher Yanagi Sōetsu, who wrote the book The Unknown Craftsman, He beleived that daily interaction with hand-made, imperfect objects was essentail to the human spirit. A Mingei object is one that is hand-made, functional, affordable, accessible and beautiful in its imperfection.
