Ponce City Market Planning a Second Phase
From http://www.atlantaloop.com
Ponce City Market, a mixed-use project that has been a boon to the Beltline, is planning its second phase, but not everyone is happy about it.
Cashelle Rose, President of the Fourth Ward Alliance, said PCM’s developer, Jamestown, is proposing three new buildings. The buildings would include a hotel, and commercial and residential spaces.
Renderings for the project were not provided to Atlanta Loop, but Curbed Atlanta was able to obtain one rendering which you can see by clicking here. According to Curbed, the hotel would be constructed on Glen Iris Drive and the other two buildings would be constructed on PCM’s southeastern corner. WSB-TV reports that one of the towers would be built on top of a parking deck.

N. McDonough Street, Candler and McDonough Intersections Milling Begins Monday, July 17
From thedecaturminute.com
Weather permitting, North McDonough Street and the Candler and McDonough intersections at East Howard Avenue and College Avenue will be milled in preparation for final resurfacing starting on Monday, July 17. The work should take 2-3 days. This work is part of the North McDonough Streetscape Improvements and the Railroad Crossing Improvements at Candler and McDonough Streets.
Project details
The North McDonough Streetscape Improvements include reducing North McDonough to two vehicle lanes, providing for wider sidewalks, and installing a 2-way “cycle track” on the west side of the street, along with traditional streetscape improvements and on-street parking. The project also features significant “green infrastructure” improvements to improve storm water quality.
The Railroad Crossing Improvements will significantly improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians and bicyclists, further encouraging those who live in Winnona Park, the McDonough-Adams-Kings Highway community, and other neighborhoods south of the CSX rail corridor to walk and bike into downtown Decatur. The improvements will provide gentler slopes on the north side of both crossings resulting in an accessible path for persons in wheelchairs or those using strollers, and a much safer route for all located outside the railroad crossing gates. Presently, pedestrians and bicyclists have to share the roadway with vehicles at these crossings.
In addition to improvements at the crossings, there will now be new pedestrian crosswalks where none presently exist — on the east side of both intersections and just north of the Candler crossing connecting to the sidewalk along the old Depot property.
Finally, improved vehicular mobility is also a project priority. Both crossings will include new traffic signals on both sides which will allow protected left turns on all legs of the two crossings.

Chick-fil-A to Close in August and Rebuild
This is from Tomorrows News Today
This past April, I revealed that the freestanding Chick-fil-A on North Druid Hills and Briarcliff Roads, the first ever freestanding Chick-fil-A, would be closing to be rebuilt. The news was met with shock and surprise with many wondering when exactly it would close and when it would reopen.

Decatur Beach Party now called Summer in the City . . . Where Beach Meets the Street.
WHEN: Friday, June 16 • 5-11 p.m.
What do you get when you combine the Decatur Beach Party, a
cultural community festival, and the Brick Store Pub’s 20th
anniversary? An exciting, beach-themed, performance-rich celebration,
now known as Summer in the City . . . Where Beach Meets the Street. Come
and celebrate this new take on the annual Decatur Beach Party,
featuring pop-up cultural performances, a special Brick Store
anniversary cake, and much, much more. Admission is free to the
community.
Old Favorites
The event will bring back some Beach Party favorites,
including the 60 tons of sand, kids activities, and a wall for rock
climbing. A rockin’ band, Bogey and the Viceroy, will perform live from
the stage on the MARTA plaza beginning at 8 p.m. The band consists of
New Orleans native Bogey Thornton and the troubadours of The Viceroy, an
eight-piece band covering classic soul from every era, along with retro
rock/pop and today’s current chart-toppers.
Pop-Up Performances
A variety of pop-up performances, artists and activities
will include the Apu Inka Peruvian Band, MBond Afrika African Dance
Group – plus stilt walking, fire twirling, sidewalk chalk art, and more.
DJ Quasi Mandisco will spin records and direct attendees to the various
festivities as they pop up.
Three Taverns Beer and Funnel Cakes
The event will include plenty of funnel cakes, kettle corn
and other carnival food for sale. Beer from Three Taverns, wine and
soft drinks will be available as well. All the restaurants will be open
for business and many will serve special Summer in the City menus.
The Gates Are Gone
Traditionally the Decatur Beach Party, as the Decatur
Business Association’s annual fundraiser, was a ticketed and gated
event. This year, thanks to our sponsors, the gates are gone, entrance
is free, and the program has expanded to include more performances and
activities. There may be some charges for a few of the activities such
as the rock climbing wall and souvenirs such as light wands. Visit the
Decatur Beach Party Facebook page for more information.

update info on Northlake Mall
From: http://www.tonetoatl.com
New owner "committed to project."
I have received a number of emails and comments about the status of Northlake Mall. To that end, I followed up with Tony Ruggeri, President of ATR Corinth Partners, the Dallas based firm that purchased Northlake Mall in early 2016. Mr. Ruggeri says he and his firm are "committed to the Northlake Mall project" and that things are progressing, albeit slower than he or residents may have hoped.
A
20 year veteran of the commercial real estate industry, Ruggeri has
developed, redeveloped, owned, and managed over 2 million square feet of
commercial real estate.
Northlake
Mall, originally built in 1971, was for much of its life owned by mall
powerhouse Simon Property Group. The 962,000 square foot mall is
located off I-285, bordered by Briarcliff Road, Henderson Mill Road and
Northlake Parkway, and is today anchored by JCPenney, Sears, and
Macy's. (Former anchor Kohl's closed last year.)
