In this 1998 photo you can see The Brick Store... Mick's Decatur and The Family Jewels both gone.
Check out the blue phone booth( a thing of the past) and look how wide the sidewalk looks ,it's not that wide now, see the two people sitting at the small table, it looks to be about 4 to 5 feet from the curb. I like the wide sidewalk look.

I beg to differ - it is the same sidewalk as today - look at the lamp posts - they're the same ones there now. The tables are smaller than the ones that are there today. There have been no changes to that area.
Steve is correct. All the significant changes to that area--sidewalk, tree and lamp post-wise--were done just prior to the Olympics in 96. Must be a trick o' perspective in the shot.
I guess it's the smaller tables, but it sure does look wide.
