Elvis Roadster: Restoring Project by BMW Will Resurrect King's 507

BMW has announced plans to restore Elvis Presley's 507 Roadster, which the rock star bought in 1958 while stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army.
According to MSN Autos, Presley fell in love with the Roadster after learning the Porsche 550 Spyder wasn't available. He leased the car for $3,750, which is about $450,000 today. It is one of only 254 507 Roadsters.
The Roadster had been part of BMW's test fleet and was outfitted with upgrades before it was shipped to Presley. Rumor has it that he had it painted red because he was tired of female fans writing on his white car with their lipstick.
When Presley returned to the U.S. in 1960, the Army shipped his car from Germany back to the States. He sold it two years later and the new owner modified the Roadster for drag racing.
It was sold again in 1968 and apparently spent decades sitting in a warehouse, World Car Fans said. Now that owner has sent the car back to BMW for restoring, a process that could take two years.
Presley's Roadster is currently on display at the BMW Museum until Aug. 10, MSN said.

Premieres Tonight At 9/8c on Syfy.
SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE was actually a thing, that was actually happening, in actual real life? You bet your sweet ass it is, and we've got its teaser right here to prove it! We saw in the first film that when these sea demons—known as sharks—get pulled out of their dark blue hell and into a deadly twister that only the likes of Tara Reid and Ian Ziering can possibly save the day. Well, good thing for us, they both make their return in the "highly anticipated" sequel that promises even more ridiculous shenanigans that only Syfy can come up with.

'Halt and Catch Fire' Season Finale Synopsis Released
From http://www.ibtimes.com
By Alex Garofalo
Joe, Gordon and company cannot catch a break on AMC’s “Halt and Catch Fire,” unless you count the endless glitches and mishaps with their Cardiff Giant computer. The show’s season finale will air Sunday, Aug. 3, with episode 10, “1984,” where the team will have to recover from the setbacks of their ill-fated Vegas trip.
Episode 9, “Up Helly Aa,” introduced a batch of new adversaries to Joe and the Cardiff team. Donna’s old boss, Hunt Whitmarsh (who resigned from Texas Instruments in Episode 8 after halting Donna’s advances on their business trip), is back with a competitor to the Cardiff Giant. It turns out he had been leading Donna on to gain information on Gordon’s plans for the Giant.
The bigger problem, though, for Cardiff was revealed at the end of the episode with Joe’s teary discovery of a company called Apple and their new computer -- the Macintosh. Joe knows the Macintosh threatens to render everything Cardiff has worked for obsolete.
However, the team’s immediate problems might be each other.
According to the episode 10 synopsis, when Joe and Gordon prepare to move the Giant back to Texas, another suspicious glitch occurs leaving them blaming each other for the problem. Viewers might remember that Joe has a history of self-sabotage at Cardiff, staging Cameron’s memory backup crisis in episode 4.
Speaking of Cameron, the wildcard programmer was not present at Cardiff’s Vegas presentation, scorned by Joe and Gordon’s decision to spurn her innovative operating system in favor of speed and cost efficiency. With Joe gently suggesting she follow the young wave of talent to Silicon Valley, viewers are left in doubt as to her future with Cardiff going into the season finale.
Meanwhile, Donna might be the show’s most compelling character as the season winds down. After following Gordon to Vegas and rekindling their marriage, Donna is now reeling after the revelation that Hunt played her and she and Gordon are on the rocks once again. A video preview of the finale, “1984,” shows Donna back at Texas Instruments frustrated as she tries to explain her erratic behavior.

The 2014 Madison Ave Soapbox Derby is September 27th
From: http://madisonavesoapboxderby.org/
Hello Neighbors! We would like to formally introduce you to the Madison Ave Community Fund! The Madison Ave Community Fund (MACF) is a non-profit organization started by us, your neighbors, to help us direct the funds raised from the Madison Ave Soapbox Derby and other future events. For those new to the neighborhood or who haven’t experienced the Madison Ave Soapbox Derby for some crazy reason, it is an amazing event started by a group of neighbors in 2011. We got together and came up with the zany idea of bringing together our families to have fun while raising money for a local charity benefiting the children of our community. Thanks to all the support of our awesome neighbors and neighborhood businesses, the event has grown from about 20 drivers in 2011 to 100 drivers in last year’s rain soaked derby. We are proud to announce that we have now donated over $30,000 to local children’s charities!
All this amazing support has led us to get formalized and officially become a non-profit organization and soon an official 501c3 charitable organization (our application is pending with our friends at the IRS). We have some big ideas for the future including the 2014 Madison Ave Soapbox Derby on September 27th, forthcoming bock parties, and various other fun events. So stay tuned and start building your cars!
Our mission and focus is on the children of our neighborhood where we will look use our resources to further the goal of giving all Oakhurst kids a similar childhood experience and opportunity to succeed. This means supporting established organizations like we have in the past or doing things on our own to help neighbors in need or really anything that helps us achieve that goal.
We are an all-volunteer organization and welcome any support you have to offer. If you are interested, even if just to volunteer a few hours of your busy schedule, we would love to have you.

Thrillist Top 5 Taco Spots includes Decatur's MARBAR
From http://www.thrillist.com/eat/atlanta/best-tacos-in-atlanta-things-to-do-in-atlanta
By Sebastian Davis
Bartaco
West Midtown
Barcelona’s Westside cousin isn’t subtle about wanting to absolutely own tacos. To make that happen they've got taco trays filled with tacos... um, filled with pork belly, duck, fried oysters, and whatever else they can come up with meat-wise.
La Urbana
Midtown
Their open-air atmosphere provides the perfect setting for you to get your mitts on their street food-style taco pescado, which, because this sucker's stuffed with fish, probably isn't a Spanish word for beef. But who knows?!
Elmyriachi
Kirkwood
Simple, savory turkey chorizo and creamy monterey jack cheese are topped with a touch of lettuce and tomato inside a crunchy deep-fried shell that goes pop in your mouth. Nothing too complicated or ridiculous, just a delicious fried crescent cradling all the meatiness you need.
MARBAR
Decatur
Decatur’s revamped hotspot has many highlights, but let’s do a little math from their menu: shrimp + bacon x (caramelized onions + avocado) = OMG I want to eat that! Oh, and don’t worry about showing your work.
Oh Boy! Rotisserie and Tacos
Johns Creek
A place that specializes in rotisserie chicken AND tacos? Take us there now! In fact, take a few of their slow-cooked, smoky BBQ chicken tacos and shove 'em right in our taco-hole... which is what we'll be calling our mouth after this weekend.

Cyclorama Moving from Grant Park to Atlanta History Center
From: http://artsculture.blog.ajc.com
By Howard Pousner
In a move of literal and figurative historic proportions, plans call for the Cyclorama, one of the city’s most valuable cultural artifacts, to leave its Grant Park home of nearly a century and relocate to a new building at the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead.
The announcement, which has an appraised value of $25 million, is being made by Mayor Kasim Reed at a City Hall press conference Wednesday morning.
A surprise part of the news is that the history center, having recently completed an unrelated $21.1 million capital improvement campaign, already has raised $32.2 million. That amount is sufficient to move the painting, construct a 23,000-square-foot building that will be accessible to visitors from its main entrance, conduct an extensive restoration and create an endowment to maintain it.
The Cyclorama painting would remain the property of the city. The history center and city still have to reach a long-term license agreement, and the deal will be contingent upon City Council approval.
A building in Grant Park has housed the massive, panoramic, city-owned painting, which depicts the Battle of Atlanta, since 1921. With the painting in need of a restoration estimated at more than $8 million, the city appointed an advisory group in 2012 to explore options.

Atlanta’s Plaza, the state’s oldest continuously operating film palace, will open celebrations of its 75th anniversary on July 18 with an extremely rare screening of Star Wars: Episode IV, the first of the six films (for the moment) in the much beloved sci-fi movie cycle. That original Star Wars film came out in 1977, then underwent a substantial cleanup of its VFX and more during the Special Edition version that came out on the film’s 20th anniversary. Disney officials confirmed that the digital print being provided the Plaza will be based on the Special Edition version which got a wide release in 1997. The original 1977 was re-released in April of 1981.
But think of this, some of the tickets are going for $75 a pop.
A few years ago, during a special event spotlighting Star Wars’ visual effects at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles, writer-director George Lucas said that he would never want to re-release the film’s original version featuring the old (though then ground-breaking) VFX, because the technological progress made in the ensuing decades allowed him to come closer to actually creating the movie that he saw in his own head. Whatever the version on screen, the original Star Wars hasn’t had a lot of runs in theaters in quite a while. But then again, when the movie came out, it stayed out, setting box office records and running in some theaters for more than a year (76 weeks(!) at one Beaverton, Ore., theater alone) as part of more than 6,000 engagements in the United States and hundreds more overseas.

Selling Underground Atlanta
From: ajc.com
By Katie Leslie and J. Scott Trubey
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
City leaders are moving closer to selling
CBRE Brokerage Services, acting on behalf of Atlanta’s Downtown Development Authority, recently placed a legal notice in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for redevelopment concepts and proposals for the property. The request comes with a laundry list of requirements, including a detailed redevelopment plan and financial statements of the interested parties. The legal ad states that proposals are due July 14.
The advertisement allows the city to test the waters for interest in the property, and comes within a few months of Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed’s decision to sell the nearly 12-acre struggling downtown mall. The Atlanta City Council approved legislation in March to buy out the rights of CV Underground, the real estate company that manages the shopping and entertainment facility, for $8.8 million.
Reed spokeswoman Melissa Mullinax noted the advertisements were placed in accordance with state law, but declined to elaborate on whether the city has a buyer in mind.
Underground Atlanta and have quietly advertised a request for redevelopment proposals for the infamous downtown tourist attraction.

Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival Sunday July 20
From:http://killertomatofest.tumblr.com/
The Goat Farm Arts Center is proud to present chef Ford Fry’s sixth annual JCT. Kitchen & Bar Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival on Sunday, July 20 from 1-5 p.m. This year, more than 50 of the South’s top chefs along with 19 skilled mixologists and over 30 farmers are teaming up to create the tastiest tomato concoctions to raise money for Georgia Organics and The Giving Kitchen.
Because of the astonishing growth and popularity of the event, the number of participants has outgrown the festival’s home of five years, JCT. Kitchen & Bar.
High-profile judges including Garden & Gun deputy editor Dave Mezz, Esquire food and travel correspondent John Mariani and Tasting Table creative director Todd Coleman and Food & Wine associate food editor Ben Mims are choosing the best tasting dish and best tasting cocktail during the event. The festivities will also include food writer, stylist and photographer Angie Mosier and registered dietician, author and food journalist Carolyn O’Neil as co-masters of ceremonies, as well as a live performance from The B-53s and DJ Brian Poust. Special guest David Miller, the actor who played Mason Dixon in the original “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes” movie, is returning this year to present the awards to winners.
Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival celebrates its sixth year at a new location, The Goat Farm Arts Center and is the recipient of The Goat Farm’s Arts Investment Package. In collaboration with the festival, the Goat Farm experiential design team has created a dynamic visual and aural environment that will spark thought provoking dialogue for the audience.
