Help Pie Shop open in the Virginia-Highland neighborhood!
I read about this at Decatur Patch and wanted to help with this campaign, so I am posting about this to get the word out.
----
Hi neighbors! I own a bakery called Pie Shop that started in rented kitchen space in Decatur in 2010 and has been operating full-scale for 2.5 years in Buckhead. Happily, I just launched a crowd-funding campaign to bring Pie Shop back! We have been a well-loved destination in our current location but have many supporters in Decatur and surrounding neighborhoods who would like to see Pie Shop come closer. With your help we can be the next long-standing member of the community.
If you love pie, coffee, and happy places to sit and share those things with friends, please visit the campaign here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/416354093/p...
It runs for a very limited time and the clock is ticking so if you believe in this project please help me get the word out by sending this link to your friends.
I am happy to answer any questions!
Thank you,
Mims

The Kimball House to Open Soon

Kimball House in the historic Decatur Depot building, will open this fall. The Brick Store Pub and Leon's Full Service teams are behind the new restaurant and bar, which was inspired by turn-of-the-century American hotels and takes its name from the Kimball House hotel that was razed in the mid-1900s.
Both the kitchen and the bar will draw inspiration from the menus of old hotel bars and restaurants. Executive chefs Jeffery Wall and Philip Meeker, who met on the line Joel, will develop the food menu. "Dishes will show classic French techniques while still remaining playful," and the menu will showcase oysters and fresh fish.
Miles Macquarrie of Leon's is creating the cocktails— both classics and "culinary-inspired" originals— and the list of spirits, which includes absinthe and sparking and fortified wines. Michael Gallagher of Leon's and Brick Store Pub is in charge of the wine list, and Kimball House will have a rotating selection of craft beers behind the bar.
The restaurant is currently in the build out phase— note the new white exterior in the picture above, compared to the previous dark green incarnation— and is currently hiring for all positions. The application can be found here.

Waiting for Balloon! at The Woodruff Arts Center October 17 – November 9.
Dear Next Stop...Decatur
The Alliance
is pleased to announce our first Theatre for the Very Young production of the
2013/14 season – Waiting for Balloon! This encore production tells the
story of two childlike hobo-clowns waiting near the railroad tracks for
“balloon.” The problem is that neither of them knows exactly what “balloon”
is. Through delightful trial and error, exploration and interaction with the
audience, the two piece together what makes a balloon a balloon and celebrate
all that is discovered while we “wait!” Waiting for Balloon is a joyous
introduction to gentle clowning and the joy of creating puppets from found
objects, designed by the creative mind of Puppeteer Michael Haverty.
Theatre for
the Very Young is an artistic experience for children ages 18 months – 5 years
that overcomes age, language, and developmental barriers, expanding the
consciousness of very young audience members and integrating bi-lingual elements
into each show. Each production nurtures creative thinking, allowing the very
young to experience art and culture on their terms.
Waiting
for Balloon runs at the Alliance from October 17 – November 9. I hope you
can share this information with your readers.
Please let me know if you have any
questions.
Best,
Kathleen

Shakedown 1979
Cool kids never have the time
On a live wire right up off the street
You and I should meet
June bug skipping like a stone
With the headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all
With the headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all
And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess forgotten and absorbed
Into the earth below
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess forgotten and absorbed
Into the earth below
Double cross the vacant and the bored
They're not sure just what we have in the store
Morphine city slippin' dues down to see
They're not sure just what we have in the store
Morphine city slippin' dues down to see
We don't even care as restless as we are
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
And poured cement, lamented and assured
To the lights and towns below
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
And poured cement, lamented and assured
To the lights and towns below
Faster than the speed of sound
Faster than we thought we'd go
Beneath the sound of hope
Faster than we thought we'd go
Beneath the sound of hope
Justine never knew the rules
Hung down with the freaks and the ghouls
No apologies ever need be made
I know you better than you fake it to see
Hung down with the freaks and the ghouls
No apologies ever need be made
I know you better than you fake it to see
That we don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess forgotten and absorbed
Into the earth below
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess forgotten and absorbed
Into the earth below
The street heats the urgency of now
As you see there's no one around

Lenox Square Mall is amidst a multi-phase renovation project
---
Lenox Square Mall is amidst a multi-phase renovation project to its interior and exterior. Simon Property Group, the mall’s developer, submitted a building permit application Tuesday to City of Atlanta to renovate the Buckhead mall’s “north facade.”
Once complete, the north facade will feature a two-story glass storefront with a redesigned porte-cochere and enhanced valet services, costing an estimated $10,265,395.
In December 2011, Simon spent more than $600,000 to demolish Lenox’s existing north facade.
“This renovation will be attractive to both current and prospective tenants and we’re already working on lease commitments with new specialty stores and restaurants in conjunction with the renovation plans,” John Phipps, Senior Vice President of Development for Simon Property Group, said in a press release.
“Our objective is to maintain Lenox Square and nearby Phipps Plaza as the epicenter of the best retail in the southeastern United States.”
The mall’s second phase of renovations will include a number of new enhancements and amenities to Lenox’s interior, including a fully-renovated Dining Pavilion with new dining options, new ceiling treatments to increase natural light and expanded seating including an outdoor patio.
The mall’s Atrium Court will also receive a new look.

BBQ Blues & Bluegrass Festival is Saturday 8-17-13
From http://decaturbbqfestival.com/
FAQ
Q: Are dogs allowed at the festival?
A: Absolutely, as long as they’re on a leash!
Q: What does the $10 entry fee include?
A: Six hours of music! Remember this is a fundraiser and all proceeds from food and beer go back to the community, so there are extra costs associated with food and beverages.
Q: How much is beer and bbq?
A: It all depends on what you want! Beer is typically $3-$4 each, and BBQ is $5-$10 depending on what you want. It’s affordable for everyone!
Q: Are chairs allowed?
A: Sure they are! But, if you want to bring a chair, you’re going to need to get there early to find a spot for it.
Q: Do you accept credit cards?
A: Unfortunately, we do not. So, stock up on cash, and come have a day of fun in the sun!

Good Growth DeKalb: Court Denies Motion to Intervene in Walmart Suit
From: northdruidhillspatch
A DeKalb County judge denied on Tuesday Selig Enterprises' motion to intervene in a lawsuit seeking to prevent construction of a Walmart Supercenter in North Decatur, Good Growth DeKalb said.
"This means that Suburban Plaza, owned by Selig, cannot make arguments at the hearing on Friday, August 9, and means Selig’s Motion to Dismiss the case is moot," the group wrote on its Facebook page. "But we still have to contend with the county’s Motion to Dismiss so please come out to the rally and hearing on Friday."

Atlanta's newest production brewery, Three Taverns Craft Brewery, will be debut its beer at Brick Store Pub - and other locations in Decatur - this Friday.
CL recently caught up with Belgian-born brewer Joran Van Ginderachter, who will join brewery president and CEO, Brian Purcell, as Three Taverns' head brewer. According to the brewery, Three Taverns will be the only traditional Belgian-style beer brewery in the Southeast, and Van Ginderachter will be one of only three classically trained Belgian brewers in the United States.
Their motto? Transcendo Mediocris- "to unlock and inspire the pursuit of a fuller and more transcendent experience of life, inviting our friends and neighbors to join us at the table of discovery and raise a glass in gratitude and merry celebration."
During the market launch on Fri., July 19, Three Taverns' will release two beers from its New Monastic series: Single Intent, a Belgian-style single, and A Night In Brussels IPA, a Belgian-style American I.P.A.
"Our beers will represent the very best in authentic Belgian-style brewing, but with a more open minded American brewing spirit," Purcell said in a release. "Single Intent is styled after the classic, lighter bodied blonde ale crafted by monks for their own consumption - a beer just too good to keep cloistered. A Night In Brussels IPA represents a fusion between old world Belgian and newer American brewing technique. More simply explained, Belgian inspiration, American creativity."
Following the Friday launch, Three Taverns' brews will be available on draft at select locations, while bottled beers will arrive mid-August.
