Hello Neighbors! We would like to formally introduce you to the Madison Ave Community Fund! The Madison Ave Community Fund (MACF) is a non-profit organization started by us, your neighbors, to help us direct the funds raised from the Madison Ave Soapbox Derby and other future events. For those new to the neighborhood or who haven’t experienced the Madison Ave Soapbox Derby for some crazy reason, it is an amazing event started by a group of neighbors in 2011. We got together and came up with the zany idea of bringing together our families to have fun while raising money for a local charity benefiting the children of our community. Thanks to all the support of our awesome neighbors and neighborhood businesses, the event has grown from about 20 drivers in 2011 to 100 drivers in last year’s rain soaked derby. We are proud to announce that we have now donated over $30,000 to local children’s charities!

Monday is as good a day as any to chat about the Decatur Craft Beer Festival. The date is set (Saturday, Oct. 18th) and ticket go on sale through Ticket Alternative on Monday, Sept. 15th at noon. Be sure to put that date on your Outlook calendar because you know they will sell out fast! You can always plan to volunteer, which gets you in for free, but even those spots come with a price. The more events you have volunteered for, the better your chances are of being invited to volunteer for this awesome event. Need to get in your hours? The Decatur Book Festival is looking for some help- click here for all the details.
Decatur’s revamped hotspot has many highlights, but let’s do a little math from their menu: shrimp + bacon x (caramelized onions + avocado) = OMG I want to eat that! Oh, and don’t worry about showing your work.

Atlanta’s Plaza, the state’s oldest continuously operating film palace, will open celebrations of its 75th anniversary on July 18 with an extremely rare screening of Star Wars: Episode IV, the first of the six films (for the moment) in the much beloved sci-fi movie cycle. That original Star Wars film came out in 1977, then underwent a substantial cleanup of its VFX and more during the Special Edition version that came out on the film’s 20th anniversary. Disney officials confirmed that the digital print being provided the Plaza will be based on the Special Edition version which got a wide release in 1997. The original 1977 was re-released in April of 1981.

Burger 21, a Tampa-based “fast casual” restaurant chain that moved into metro Atlanta last year, plans to add locations in Buckhead, the Cumberland Mall area of Smyrna and in North Druid Hills, the company said Wednesday.
The plans increase the number of restaurants in development to eight for the metro area. The chain opened its first local restaurant in Buford near the Mall of Georgia in Gwinnett County last summer.
