Looking back at the East Lake Stores in the 1960's

Jack Olvey Paint Store (not sure of spelling) is where we bought our paint supplies. And The Variety Store had everything, I would ride my bike over to east lake and always go to The Variety Store to buy candy, bubblegum cards, kites and other junk, and then ride over to a 7-11 type store near the Fire Department and get a bottle of Mountain Dew, most of the time is was a Coca-Cola, but Mountain Dew just came out.

WordSmiths Books is moving to the old SunTrust building on the square.

It's official. WordSmith's Books is moving, just around the corner,
read all about it below.

WordSmiths Books Is Moving.

Here is WordSmith's statement:
Wordsmiths Books is moving to the old Sun Trust building on the Decatur Square! Our new address, as of March 28, 2008, is 545 North McDonough Street. Only a bit more than a block from where we now reside, our new space will sit firmly on the Square of Downtown Decatur and will offer us all the space and room for growth that we will need into the far-reaching future. Additionally, we’re nothing shy of a few paces from the very lawn that hosts the Decatur Arts Festival, the Decatur Book Festival, the Beach Party, the Wine Fest, Movies on the Square, and a host of many other festive activities that take place on the Square throughout the year.

In terms of operation, nothing will change. We will close from March 25th through the 27th before reopening on the Square on the 28th. And once we are there, we will still play host to numerous author and music events, readings from Poetry Atlanta, Open Mic Night, and anything else we can toss upon our stage. We will still have a great selection of books, but with a few tweaks and quirks that we couldn’t offer before. We will still have dedicated space for books clubs and meetings, and we will still have plenty of seating, free wi-fi, and one of the finest and most knowledgeable staffs in Atlanta. We will be all that we have been and with the great space we will be offered, quite a lot more.

Thank you all for your support, and we look forward to offering even more as move into our new home and onward through 2008!

THE DECATUR THEATRE

This is my kind of art.

The Decatur Theatre

The Decatur Theatre was torn
down in the mid 1970's.

They plan on building condo's
in this spot.
What they should do is rebuild
The Decatur Theatre and build the
condo's above it, then they could call
it The Decatur Theatre Condo's.

NOTE: I am always looking for pictures of The Decatur Theater, if you have one please let me know. thanks

MO JO PIZZA & PUB

Back in the 1960's this was East Lake Drug Store,
you could buy ice cream by the carton, any flavor,
it was a great drug store.
Now it is a Mo Jo Pizza & Pub.
Here is a comment :
Amy from Atlanta wrote:
I spent five years looking for authentic NY style pizza in Atlanta. The closest thing is the Whole Foods in Midtown (note that the Whole Foods in Toco Hills does NOT make something I would call pizza). The second closest is probably Rosa's although I have only had cold take-out from there and was not particularly impressed. Now that I have found Mojo Pizza, I will stop looking. My quest has ended. Not only can you fold it, but it's actually not that greasy, meaning that you don't feel like killing yourself after you have 3 pieces. Plus which, the selection of microbrews is awesome!

Well we like to think of it as more of a Voyage than a mission and not so much a statement but a daily discovery---to offer our guests the highest quality, most socially conscious products (ok, not so much products but delectables) presently available in a comfortable, relaxed environment with the friendliest of service & the unmatched skill of a professional, well-trained artisan... be it chef, barista, wine sommelier or cashier.
