Seventeen new DeKalb County police officers will hit the streets Friday.
CEO Burrell Ellis and public safety director William “Wiz” Miller will present badges to the 90th police academy class Friday before the officers get their patrol assignments.
The new officers will help fill some of the vacancies left by about 80 officers who took early retirement at the end of May. The new officers will work as patrol officers, while the majority of the retiring officers were in the upper ranks.
The graduation ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. in the Maloof Auditorium at 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur.
