The Lost Marilyn Monroe Photos
In August 1953, photographer John Vachon from LOOK magazine was granted unusual access to starlet Marilyn Monroe while on the Banff, Alberta set of "River of No Return." The negatives from these intimate photo sessions were then filed away for nearly 60 years -- until now, with the release of "Marilyn, August 1953: The Lost LOOK Photos" from Dover Publications.

Road Trip to The 43rd Mountain Moonshine Festival
--
Dawsonville, GA
"Let me tell the story, I can tell it all
About the mountain boy who ran illegal alcohol
His daddy made the whiskey, son, he drove the load
When his engine roared, they called the highway Thunder Road."
( lyrics from The Ballard of Thunder Road).
43rd Annual Mountain Moonshine Festival at At the intersection of Hwy 53 and Hwy 9 in Dawsonville, GA is this weekend up in Dawsonville GA.
Today the weather was perfect for this annual event and at this time of year you can see all the leave changing to fall colors.
This event is expecting 100,000 vistors this weekend.
Hundreds of old cars are on display and plenty of food and entertainment.
The Mountain Moonshine Festival runs through 5 PM Sunday.
From: http://www.dawson.org
The Moonshine Festival explores Dawson County's history during the prohibition era when liquor was illegal and the Great Depression of the 1930's when running moonshine through the foothills of the Northeast Georgia Mountains was a way of life. Thousands of tourists flock to the birthplace of NASCAR racing to hear about storied legends, Lloyd Seay, Roy Hall, Raymond Parks, and Gober Sosebee. These men loved the thrill of being chased through the ridges of Northeast Georgia Mountains. Bring the family and visit an old Moonshine still; listen to stories from both "Trippers" and Revenuers. On Sat., the 23th, crafts, food and entertainment will begin at 8:00 a.m. on the square in Dawsonville. The parade will begin at 9:00 a.m. See a huge car show lining the streets, including vintage racecars and their drivers. Sunday October 24th – Activities continue with music, dancers, kid’s games and rides, exhibits, crafts, food and cars, cars and more cars! Fun for the entire family.

Howdy Folks! Big Tex Cantina Coming to Decatur
Photo from Flickr member: What Makes The Pie Shops Tick?'s
Read the story below.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is from:
The Blissful Glutton web site.
I was just informed by Jonathan Fox that he and his brother, Justin, have started demolition on their new spot: The Big Tex Cantina. The restaurant, which gets its name from Jonathan’s nickname, is located in Downtown Decatur. The Fox Bros. are converting three old spaces–that formerly housed Nathalie’s Fish House, Levi’s Key West Fish House, and an old club–into one large space. Big Tex will be a departure from Fox Bros. BBQ according to Jonathan, since they’ll have a much larger kitchen and more room to play around with the “Texican” menu, which draws many influences from their home state of Texas. Look for items such as chicken fried steak, homemade corn dogs, stacked enchiladas (their mom’s recipe), tacos, chalupas and more. The Cantina will be open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night. Jonathan maintains the restaurant will still be family friendly despite having a fully-stocked bar and a pool room complete with darts. The restaurant is slated to open in late Winter or early Spring.

The Steel Wheels, from Virginia, will be at Eddie's Attic on Oct 27th.
8 PM / $ 15.00 Oct. 27th, Wednesday - 8:00pm / doors at 6:30pm
We love Eddie’s Attic! Great people and a great venue. Opening will be our great friends The Honey Dewdrops! It’s an all Virginia night in Decatur.
The Steel Wheels are a high energy Americana and roots folk act from Harrisonburg, Virginia. Their recent album, Red Wing, broke into the top 10 on the Americana music charts. They also have received a lot of attention for the yearly bicycle tour that they do--- most recently they completed a 10 day tour of Michigan, completely by bicycle (no support vehicles--just bikes and trailers and a lot of muscle).

Wells Fargo & Co. is About to Show it's Name
Decatur, GA
Photo above is Wells Fargo's new sign in Decatur
Welcome to Decatur Wells Fargo.
Name change due to Wells Fargo and Wachovia merger.
By Rachel Tobin
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Wells Fargo & Co. is about to make its name in metro Atlanta.
On Saturday, the San Francisco-based bank will begin installing the biggest branding symbols in its history at a prime location next to the Downtown Connector.
A construction helicopter will lift three massive signs atop the building at 171 17th Street in Atlantic Station that used to sport the Wachovia name.
Wells Fargo bought Wachovia in 2009 and is completing the brand overhaul. Wachovia’s signs were removed in September.
The new north and south facing signs on the building are 11 feet tall, while the Wells Fargo logo facing the interstate measures 27 by 29 feet. This sign, recently photographed in Virginia Beach, Va., will replace Wachovia signs atop the office tower at 171 17th Street in Atlantic Station. Signs, including this one that measures 27 feet high by 29 feet wide, are the largest that Wells Fargo has ever installed on one of its office buildings.

A documentary by Matt Rasnick

The Plaza is a story 70 years in the making. The last neighborhood movie theater in Atlanta Georgia, struggles to survive in a world of multiplexes by offering it's audience many unique and special attractions. Old movies, horror shows with live actors, special screenings, events and parties are all part of the business model that owners Jonathan and Gayle Rej have developed in order to compete with the national chains as they keep the doors open and the audiences entertained in this historic movie palace.

Emory Village Roundabout Hoping to Ease Traffic
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
DeKalb County officials are hoping to ease traffic congestion near Emory Village with a new roundabout. Drivers should expect delays the next nine months during construction.
The county started the road work Wednesday at the entrance of Emory University at North Decatur Road and Oxford Drive. County spokesman Burke Brennan said he expects the project, which involves replacing the existing traffic light with a roundabout, will be completed in June.
The $2.2 million project is designed to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety, Brennan said. In addition to the road upgrades, the county is adding new sidewalks, lighting, benches, trash cans, bike racks and landscaping.
