First Look Inside Decatur's New Big Tex Cantina
-
-
-
I got these great pictures on my trip to downtown Decatur Tuesday night to take night shots of this new place, because I knew the new sign was going to be tested tonight,(they first had the sign on the roof line but the city told them no, so they moved it down on the side of the building) and while I was shooting my pictures, one of the partners came out and ask me in and gave me the tour. They said they hope to have a light opening in about 2 weeks.
Many thanks to Grant for the tour of BIG TEX CANTINA.
This place is very nice.

BIG TEX CANTINA Coming Soon
--
BIG TEX CANTINA - Ponce de Leon Pl and Swanton Way
--
The restaurant The Big Tex Cantina, which gets its name from Fox Bros. owner Jonathan (his nickname) and it's located on Ponce de Leon Pl. in Downtown Decatur. The Fox Bros. are converting three old spaces–that formerly housed Nathalie’s Fish House, Levi’s Key West Fish House, and an old club–into one large space. Big Tex will be a departure from Fox Bros. BBQ according to Jonathan, since they’ll have a much larger kitchen and more room to play around with the “Texican” menu, which draws many influences from their home state of Texas. Look for items such as chicken fried steak, homemade corn dogs, stacked enchiladas (their mom’s recipe), tacos, chalupas and more. The Cantina will be open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night. Jonathan maintains the restaurant will still be family friendly despite having a fully-stocked bar and a pool room complete with darts. The restaurant is slated to open soon.

- justguessing said:Had it expanded into the space next door?
- You said:Yes, I think it is taking up the 2 spaces next to it.
- justguessing said:Ah, if I had gone there first, I would have known. And BTW, formerly Mosaic, a restaurant, and before that The Goodbye Girl, an antique and gift shop.

Looking Back at Plaza Drugs
Proceeds from Jennifer Nettles Concert Bolster Museum School Music Program
From Decatur.patch.com
Attic Community Playground donated more than $6,000 to the charter school's music program.
photo credit: atticcommunityplayground.orgHow much music education can $6,000 provide? Enough to leave 140 children wild with enthusiasm, according to the Museum School of Avondale Estates.
Patch has just learned that Attic Community Playground, an Avondale Estates nonprofit that supports music arts and education, has donated $6,186 for the Museum School's music program.
The money was generated by a solo, acoustic benefit concert by Jennifer Nettles in Texas in January. A Georgia native and former Decatur resident, Nettles is an Attic Community Playground board member and half of the grammy-winning country music duo Sugarland. Ponder High School in Texas also received proceeds from this concert.
The donation was presented by Nettles and other Attic Community Playground board members: Jennifer Joyner, an Avondale Estates resident and upcoming Museum School parent; Robert Denning, a Texas businessman and music enthusiast; and Eddie Owen, founder of Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, according to a release.
As a thank you, Museum School first graders wrote and presented thank you cards to the board, and second and third graders sang to the visitors. As part of the festivities, Nettles participated in the second graders' music lesson earlier in the day, the release said.

The Decatur store, located at 2752 Ponce de Leon Ave., will open Saturday, April 9, at 10:30 a.m. Ed and Sara Andrist are the new franchisees.
Founded in 1988 in Eau Claire, Wis., Erbert & Gerbert's Sandwich Shop is dedicated to serving better, more flavorful sandwiches than anyone else in the universe. The sandwich shop concept was based on childhood stories told by the founder's father that centered on two imaginary boys, Erbert and Gerbert Herbert, who experienced adventures throughout space and time, meeting interesting characters along the way. Those 14 characters - including Halleys Comet, Jacob Bluefinger and Comet Morehouse - are now the names of the Erbert & Gerbert's sandwiches.
Erbert & Gerbert's 50 restaurant locations span the Midwest - in college towns, urban downtowns and rural centers - from Wisconsin to Minnesota, North Dakota, Colorado - and now in Georgia. In addition to in-store dining, Erbert & Gerbert's Sandwich Shops provide catering and delivery options.
